Summer is almost here and I CAN’T WAIT! Barbecues, swimming and camping are in the near future and I’m beyond excited! This recipe for Oven Baked Chili Dogs would be a great idea for a summer potluck. They are a sinfully delicious alternative to regular hot dogs.

The type of chili you use is totally up to you! Feel free to use canned if you don’t have a lot of time, but I would suggest homemade to take these babies to the next level.

I personally love a certain brand of chili called ‘Bear Creek Darn Good Chili’. It has all the spices and dried beans in a package. You just add cooked ground beef and tomato paste to it. It’s easy and delicious.

If you can find it in your grocery store I suggest you try it. It is amazing chili! Especially on these Oven Baked Chili Cheese Dogs all drenched in cheese and onion. *drool* 🙂

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a 9×13 baking pan with tin-foil (for easy clean-up). Place hot dog buns inside. (I only fit 7, but if you squeeze them together all 8 should fit)
  • Squeeze desired amounts of mustard, ketchup and relish into the inside bottom of each bun. Then put a hot dog inside each bun, over the sauces.
  • Ladle about a 1/3 cup of chili onto each hot dog, and then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and onion.
  • Cover pan with foil. Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Let stand 5 minutes and then carefully remove foil. Use a spatula to remove chili dogs from pan. Serve warm and enjoy!

  1. ♥ this idea, will def try it, thx so much for sharing! we had incredible hotdog sale here last week, got my 10 packs for freezer. i always make double batch chili and send leftover to freezer – just for hot dogs:)

  2. These look incredible! I have a similar blog with recipes and I like to experiment in the kitchen (hence the name cookingexperimentation.blogspot.com), but I never would have thought to put hot dogs in the oven. Thanks!

  3. We had the oven baked chili dogs for our dinner, and it was so good! Thankyou so much for this recipe.

Nope! I Had the same concern but I made them today for my husband, son, and a couple of friends and they turned out great, major hit!

    1. Made these yesterday and they were so simple to make and tasted so darn good! I used the Southern style hot dogs and a different brand of chili and they were absolutely yummy! I love how you can change up the variation of flavors with this recipe. Will definitely be making this one over and over again. Thanks for sharing this awesome recipe! =)

  4. Holly, I am taking your word for the Bear Creek “Darn Good Chili” being great. I picked up a package last night just to make these dogs! Do you add any beef, or do you cook yours per package directions? I have made my hot dogs in the oven exactly like yours since I can remember, and have always used canned Wolf Brand Chili.

  5. Waiting for these in the oven as I type. This was super easy and all my boys are slightly impatiently waiting. Thank you for this easy after work recipe! Can’t wait to try & dabble with the ingredients next time!

I’m making these now. We’ve had them before and they are excellent! Being Southerners, we add slaw to the top after baking. Adds a delicious tang and crunch!

We add slaw to ours also. I love it. I have made ours in the oven as it so convenient and gives me time to made the french fries in the air fryer.

  8. I love these I’ve had them at least 4 times. I will never go back to my ways of making hotdogs. Absolutely love them

I have never had a chili dog and I am a senior citizen! This is an easy recipe to prepare. I mixed the mayo, Mustard and
Relish and spread it on each side of the
Roll. I sprayed a 13×9 pan with olive
OIl spray And aRranged the buns. I did
Have to use a second Smaller pan. Put
Hot dogs in, covered with chili, covered with FoIl and baked. I took out 10 minutes early and put the cheese on, tented foIl over hot dogs and cooked until cheese melted. They were very good and filling! I Froze leftovers, so I will
Let you know how that works.
Thank you for this tasty recipe!

I have been using your recipe for for a couple of years now and it is always so easy. There is only my hubby and me, so I make a smaller batch. This is the only way I will make chili dogs. They are so good!!!
