This French Onion Beef Casserole will win hearts all around the dinner table. Filled with beef, French onion dip and noodles- this casserole is delicious, full of flavor, and so comforting!

I LOVE a good casserole. I make them all the time, but all those ingredients added together in one dish can be a difficult photography subject. 😉 That being said, don’t judge this based on the pictures. This French Onion Beef Casserole will win hearts all around the dinner table! Filled with beef, French onion dip and noodles- it is so delicious, full of flavor and so comforting.
It is amazing, my friends! I can’t think of any other word except that it is amazing. 🙂

I am so grateful my kids typically love casseroles too. When noodles are involved at any meal they don’t ask questions. They just eat. ha! I like to serve this with a side of broccoli and it makes a complete meal for my family!

Great comforting week dinner ! So simple ingredients and such a beautiful result ! Thank you so much !
Loved this recipe, and so easy to make! I did not have french fried onions on hand, so simply added a chopped onion to the ground beef mixture as I was cooking it, and then topped the casserole with cheese before putting in the oven. The next time I made this I tried a different variation. I placed stewing beef cubes in my slow cooker, and topped with some chopped onion and a can of cream of mushroom soup and a sprinkle of garlic powder. I cooked on low for approximately 6 hours, and about a half hour before serving I stirred in the chip dip (I used half the jar). I served it with potatoes as a side dish, but it would also be delicious with pasta. Thank you so much for another wonderful recipe that I can add to my collection 🙂
It was good, but I would recommend adding a little milk to the mixture to make it a little thinner and creamier. You also might want to add green beans to the mixture as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Dryness is a common casserole complaint in these parts. Green beans sound perfect here!
just add some of the pasta water to the meat mixture before baking! Ive made this recipe several times and never dry !
It does not call for green beans i would not use them this recipe is excellent the way it is
People naturally think of adding green beans because of the use of fried onions. It’s a flavor combo most of us have grown up with.
Definitely green beans! It took it from amazing to scrumpdillyumptious!
Absolutely, this recipe is fine the way it is.
I’m getting ready to make this. Going to saute Onions and mushrooms, just to add a little extra ‘somethin’ somethin’.”
Does anyone know if the Lay’s French onion dip in a jar is available in Canada?
If not, I just used sour cream and the Lipton onion mix. turned out great!
Any french onion chip dip should do. I also added sauted baby bella mushrooms, some Paula Deen seasoning ,some minced garlic, about 1/4 cup whole milk and topped with Mexican shredded cheese before i added the onions!!
Yes, I have used French onion soup mix with sour cream, and it works fine. It is also cheaper.
First time i made this i did not have dip so used sour cream, minced onion and basil. Was delicious! Green beans are unnecessary.
I live in Canada, and used “Ruffles” brand onion chip dip (425g jar) with great results in this recipe. It is usually found in the aisle where potato chips are sold.
I Didn’t use the lays dip, but made my own with 16oz sour cream and packet if onion soup mix.
The “Ruffles” french onion dip is the same dip as the lay’s french onion dip. Ruffles And lays potato chips are from the same food company- Frito lay.
Not sure if jar available in Canada but if the little cans that are sold where you find the chips will work. I have used these also, hiwere it will take two. You could even use the french onion dip sold in the dairy dept where you find sour cream etc. I have used this When i was out if the jar or couldnt get. Hope this helps.
I cut back A LITTLE on my noodles. And added about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of sOur cream. It was perfect!
My first time it was too thick and cloggy. Now its so creamy.
I don’t think we have Lay’s dip here but you could use PHILADELPHIA onion dip
You could make your own dip. All you need is 16 ounces of sour cream and one packet of Lipton onion soup mix. Mix and let sit in refrigerator.
Made this tonight. My daughter has a milk allergy so I made my own CoM soup. The whole family really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing.
LOVED!!!
2/1/18
Made this for dinner, but with some tweaks. Instead of store bought cream of mushroom soup, I made my own. It takes a little bit more time, but definitely worth it. AND instead of the jarred onion dip I made my own(16 oz. of sour cream & a packet of Lipton Onion Soup, use the French Onion if they sell it at your store) This dish was absolutely delish!
What can you substitute the cream of mushroom with?? Hubby hates mushrooms.
Cream of chicken soup or cream of celery would work fine too.
Cream of chicken worked for me.
I would use a jarred or canned Beef Gravy,so the beef flavor would not be compromised.
Maybe cream of potato soup.
Cream of onion soup works really well
I used the french Onion soup!
Brilliant! I’m going to do the same. TY for sharing that.
This is a very tasty casserole. But I only used one can of cream of mushroom soap and added milk. I think this could use some vegetables too. I will make this again.
This recipe is a keeper. It is easy to make and is very similar to the old old recipe of meatballs and cream of mushroom soup but this is better. I am going to be serving 4 men next week this recipe and I know they’re going to go for seconds. I’ll probably have some steamed peas to include a vegetable.
Loved this meal. I add a few THINGS to it since I’ve made it a few times. Sometimes it gets dry so I add a little milk. I add a can of peas and some shredded cheese. I always add garlic to my meat MIXTURE when cooking also. And season to taste. I’ve made it when people came over and they always ask for recipe. Thank you for this winner!
What can I replace the cream of mushroom soup with as my husband is allergic to mushrooms?
Cream of chicken soup would work too!
Cream of bacon
This was simple and yummy!
Not normally a fan of onion flavors but this casserole is awesome! Onion is not overwhelming. My grandkids even loved it!
It’s in the oven now and can’t wait to try it!!
So easy and simple to make! Found it on Pintrest and we love it. I only doubled the ground beef for my family to give it a little more heft, other than that, made it exactly as written. Thank you for another great weeknight dinner that I can prep ahead of time and save time!
I added some chopped asparagus to the hamburger noodle mix, just to add some green. I served it with sautéed garlic spinach.
Can you substitute cream of mushroom for cream of chicken soup? I don’t like mushrooms.
Yes you could use cream of chicken instead of the mushroom 🙂
I added some fresh onions, green onions, fresh garlic, pinch of cayenne pepper, onion and garlic powder to the groun beef. I added corn and used deans french onion dip in refrigated section instead. Baked it for 25min. It was creamy and moist. It was really good.
It’s so good!!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
is there a way to make this a crockpot receipe?
I made 2 batches and frozen one! Having the second batch tonight! Both my husband amd my loved it!
This was delicious, I made it exactly according to the recipe! Even my picky eaters loved it. It’s not very often I find something my family of 5 will all eat and request again. My 11 year old even asked if we can have it again this week! Definitely adding this to our regular menu rotation.
I have made this and it is a keeper in our house. I am going to add some french fried jalapenos with the french fried onions for a little zip.
My family loved this casserole!!!! Thank you
Yum! This was so good! I used sour cream and Lipton also. The flavor was awesome!
I used this recipe as inspiration. My version substituted potatoes and green beans (parboiled) instead of noodles. I’m not a fan of canned soups so I made a roux, adding beef bouillon and a 16 ounce carton of French Onion dip. Mixed it all together in a casserole dish with half a can of the French fried onions. Baked 30 minutes, then topped with the rest of the crispy onions and baked another 15 minutes. YUMMY.
This is by no means even the same recipe. I’d say it’s even a stretch to say it’s inspired. But it sounds great. Do you have a recipe for the Roux or will any do? I’ve not made a Roux before, that I know of…
Added sliced mushrooms partway through cooking the beef, this was delicious! My brother had THIRDS, and the leftovers didn’t stay in the fridge long!
So great to hear! 🙂
do you cover this with foil at all ???
You can cover it with foil if you like!
Wow this was sooooo good! I followed your recipe exactly other than the brands of ingredients and was very happy how it turned out! We will definitely be making this again!
So great to hear! Glad you loved it 🙂
I did a little tweaking too… used ground turkey, added chopped bell pepper and corn. Super good!! Thank you!
Was the ground turkey okay? Ive only made it with ground beef. Always loved it!
Just made this for dinner tonight. I didn’t use ground beef but used a beef roast already cooked and in its juices. Also added sautéed mushrooms and the juices from the beef roast. My family loved it. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It is a keeper
Sounds delicious! Thank you for your comment, Kathryn! 🙂
Don’t underestimate your photography skills! The first picture from a side view sold me! It looks so yummy, even before I read the recipe. I am sure this will become a regular quick meal option!
I just made this delicious casserole. My family loved it! The only change I made was to add a can of green beans, a little shredded cheese on top and seasoned the meat while cooking. Thank you!
Thanks Tammy! Love your addition of green beans and cheese. I’ll have to try that!
can you use french onion soup instead of dip?
If you use a creamy French onion soup I think it would work. The French onion dip is thick, so if you don’t use the dip make sure to use a thicker soup. 🙂
DId you end up usIng the frEnch Onion Soup?
I playn to make this tonight using French Onion soup with sour cream for the creaminess that’s needed. I may add a dash or two of worceshire (spelling?). I dont’ have have French’s Fried onions either but I can’t eat too many onions as they don’t agree with me. I’ll try to remember to post my results if I remember! lol! Thank you for the recipe!
Crushed potato chips work just as well if you don’t have the French’s Fried onions. Does anyone know if this casserole can be made ahead of time and frozen?
Good morning, Id like to add green beans to this recipe. But should I get them frozen or no?
Very simple and flavorful. I followed the recipe, but with one addition. I tossed in a big handful of frozen petite peas, for color and a bit more moisture. It was perfect! Thanks for sharing this wonderful dish.
I have made this multiple times. My fAmily loves it! Today i diDnt have the Lays dip, so i used a Pint of sour cream and a packet of dry onion soup mix. It was fantastic.
has anyone used ground turkey?
I wish I could look at a tasty looking dish and not find it using cream of mushroom soup. I would rather use a country milk gravy or bechamel than ever use that soup. I’ve tried eating Dishes that use it and I just can’t get past the first bite before my Gag reflex kicks in. But, I think I like the cream gravy idea. I might try making this with that because I love all the other ingredients.
Can you make this in the morning and bake later?
Yes Sharon 🙂 Just cover tightly and store in fridge until ready to bake! You also will need to bake it longer since it will be cold.
This is a recipe that my mother used to make 75 years ago. The only difference is that instead of the french fried onion rings, she used crushed potato chips to top the dish off. everything else is the same. This is a family staple in our lives. we, my husband and i like the french fried onions in the casserole, but my kids still want the potato chips. try it both ways sometime.
My whole family loves this recipe! I love how versatile it can be. We love it “as is”, but ive also done variations with leftovers, ect. its hard to please all three kids, and this recipe is a winner! I also love how easy and quickly i can pUt it toGether on busy days. Thanks for sharing!
Can you freeze this? (French onion beef casserole)
Hi Sydne! I have never froze this before. I’m not too sure how it would turn out with the cream soup and french onion dip. I’m sorry! If you do let us know how it turned out 🙂
Hi sydne,
Yes you can freeze this. I do it all the time. I usually will get 3 meals out of this. I love this recipe! I’m making it again tonight.
I added a can of green beans (drained) to my recipe and it came out fine. Frozen would add liquid that may thin it up a bit but I think it would would fine either way.
If i need to double this, would i just double everything? And woukd it still fit in a 13×9 Casserole dish? Thanks!
I don’t think it would fit in the 9×13 if you double it. I suggest just making two pans of it 🙂
I made this as a quick and easy, but still good and filling meal last week. My husband, who generally doesn’t care for casseroles, took a few bites and said “i didn’t even know i needed beef and noodles until i ate this!” I’m making it again tonight because he requested it. I did add some half and half in with the sauce to make it a tiny bit thinner. otherwise, i wouldn’t change a thing. great casserole, very comforting.
Such a great recipe. I add lots of SAUTÉED VEGGIES (mushrooms, onion, carrots, peas) to beef up the nutrients and have tried with many different noodles and all seem to work fine (we prefer elbow). I add a bit of pasta water and a bit of milk to make Sure there is enough of the sauce to go around. Ive also tried it Using just sour cream and an oNion soup packet. All variations work weLl. Have also used TVP instead of beef for a vegetarian version. This is a weekly staple and we absoLutely love how versatile it is!
DeeeLIsh!!!
I added fresh mushrooms, corn, a sprinkle of Pantry dried Garlic!
Used 1 can mUshroom soup and 1 can cream of celery… REMAINING ingredients
Hubby lOves!!!
On my company list
Easy peaSy!!!
Great recipe, especially for a cold weaTher dinner. I subbed bowtie pasta for egg noodles and added 1/2 cup sharp white cheddAr and it was fantastic. Plenty of leftovers, too.
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS AND WILL TRY AGAIN.
This rEcipe is delicious and has become one of ouR favorites!
One variation i did (because iTs what i had on hand) Is sub 1 soUp to campbells cream of chicken and mUshroom with the other soup, campbElls cream of mushroom soup. It was fabUloUs.
This dish is delicious! Truly a crowd pleaser. I definitely will Keep tHis recipe in our rotation. Yummy!!
This was awesome!! I used cream of celerY soup as i was out of cream of mushroom. I added beef stock to it as well. Honestly im not a huge fan of ground beef but will defiNitely say it was good in this dish!! Thank you for posting.
I Am going yo mAke this For dinner tonight. Im Going
to use shredded beef, 1 can of mushroom soup and 1 either onion or cElery soup, not fond Of mushroom soup. FOLLOWING the recipe Ither than that. Cant wait to see hOw it tastes.
Had my doubts as i was making the casserole but its out of the oven and on the table and its great. Only difference in mine is i used cream of celery soup.
I was so excited to try this and for good reason! I made a few tweaks and I think it made it that much better. While cooking the beef I added a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce and some minced garlic. Instead of the Lays french onion dip i used 8oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup of sour cream, and a packet of french onion soup mix. Also before adding the crispy fried onions, I topped it with italian shredded cheese and a little extra parmesan. Ok more than a few tweaks but it was still so tasty and an amazing meal! Thanks for the starter tips!
This all sounds amazing!! I am going to try it with your additions next time 🙂
This was GREAT! I used ground turkey and added a little all-purpose seasoning, cayenne, onion powder, & garlic powder while browning it. I didn’t drain the juices out (not much from turkey). After dumping the SOUp & dip, I used a little milk to get what remained out of the jar. Instead of the French’s Fried onions I used natural, uncoated, fried onions. I served it w/broccoli. We loved it! Thank you!
I addEd sauteed onions, mushrooms, french onion dip, a Lot of chopped garlic, and a packet of onion soup mix. I doubled the recipe as i was cooking in a fire station. The guys iNhaled it. An absolute winner! Paired it with seasoned green beans and garlic bread.
You officially won best food blogger with this one. ❤❤
Made last night. Easy to prepare. Shared with some friends. Will make again.
It looks super easy and delicious
Cant wait to make this dish!
Recipe’s excellent as is. next time i may use 1 can coms and one can of french onion soup.
Can’t find jars of Lay’s french onion dip. Is it possible to use a regular sour cream french onion dip in it’s place?
I have never tried it that way, so I can’t say for sure. But I assume it may work.
Super easy reCipe! Read through some suggestions and variations.
I added baby portobello mushrooms saute with some garlic which added a great flavor. I also added a small bag of mixed vegetables and half a package of dry lipton onion soup for a little extra. Before miXing in the noodles i added some milk to keep it creamy. Overall turned out delicious
This is fantastic!!! I added some mushrooms and fresh garlic to it, as well as some garlic salt, and it’s absolutely incredible. Thank you!
My husband loves anything French Onion! He and i loved this dish! his Mom we care for down the street loved this as well. Was a huge hit! followed the recipe though was unable to find French Onion dip in the store. I knew I had sour cream and a packet of onion soup mix which worked fine though leaving to meld its flavors together overnight is perfect. I thought 2 cans of mushroom soup was too much at but it does need both cans for the noodles and adds to the depth of flavors to this dish. I did add 1/4 C. of whole Milk though it would have been fine without it. Thank you Holly!
Is The cream of Mushroom soup the same as cream of mushroom condensed soup? I cant find any without the word condensed.
Yes, it’s the condensed cream of mushroom. I will fix that on the recipe card.
Simple and great tasting!
This was SERIOUSLY so good. I never would have thought to use lays dip in a casserole. Everyone loved It. I usually am a firm believer in addIng cheese to casseroles but it wasn’t nece at all! It is so simple to make too! Delightful! *chefs kiss*
This recipe was so creamy, comforting, and delicious. My teenage boys loved it! I added two 6.6oz cans of sliced mushrooms (drained) to the recipe. Also my sons asked for the Shaker of Poppy seeds when they were eating it and it tasted great with poppy seeds sprinkled on top so I think next time I’m going to sprinkle poppy seeds on top during the last 15 minutes of the bake time (I also put the French’s Fried onions on during the last 15 minutes of baking).
I made this casserole tonight. It was delicious. I actually drained 2 cans of french cut green beans and added them. i’ll definitely make this one again.
This is a favorite in our house. I add shredded mozzarella cheese to the top before I put the fried Onions on top. Also the original Fried Oinons are good but the White cheddar FRENCH’s Onions is a great alternative as well.
I made this for dinner tonigh and we really enjoyed it. Nice and Flavorful. I lOve how easy it was to makE.
I added a splash of WORCESTERSHIRE sauce, garlic powder, and a pinch of CAYENNE.
Thanks for such a good recipe!
Can you use hellauvagood French onion dip instead of lays?
I have never tried that dip, so I can’t say how it will affect the taste of the casserole. If you like the flavor then I’m sure it will work great!
Love This!! It was easy and my fam loved it! I did add Milk so it wasn so thick.
Absolutely delicious! My hubby is a picky eater and he couldn’t get enough. And the granddaughters ate it without argument. I used 15 oz sour cream with onion and mushrooms soup mix instead of the chip dip. Thank you for this.
This was just so delicious! I used Lipton-Onion-soup dip, and after reading some reviews, was worried about dryness, So i drizzled a half cup Of Melted “move over butter” spRead over the casserole before putting it in the oven. Could not shovel it in faSt enough. I Think i’ll double the onion topping next time, because those crispy bits really compliment the texture of this dish. Definitely a keeper!
Ruffles has one. You can even buy it a dollarama
My son is allergic to mushrooms. What soup would be a good substitute?
Cindy you could use cream of chicken or cream of celery 🙂
Very good and easy. Definitely a comfort food. I made it pretty much according to the recipe but two small changes. Instead of the store-bought french onion dip, I made my own with sour cream and french onion mix the day before. The sour cream was 16 oz. I used all of it. I also added about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of half & half. My fear is that it would be dry, which I didn’t want. With the half & half and a little extra dip, it was just the right amount of “not dry”. When I served it, I found that sprinkling a few extra fried onions on top ensured i got a little crunch in each bite. I made it with the intention of left overs for dinner this coming week. I think I will add just a tad of milk when i heat so that is doesn’t dry out. Thanks again for the yummy recipe!
This is a new staple in my family’s hOme! We all love it!
I Make my own french onion dip with sour cream and lipton onion soup mix. I double the Sauce portion (my fam likes very saucy CASSEROLEs), And add onions into the ground beef.
I froze a portion and reheated it tonight. Straig from the freezer, covered in foil, in the oven at 375° for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Removed the foil and crisped the Fried onion TOPPING for five minutes.
One of my go-to favorites. We love it!
added about 1TBSP of worchestershire sauce. It was a big hit!
This is a Staple for our family. And it makes tHe best leftovers! Sometimes i make it a day early just so we can eat it as leftovers.
I made this today, cooked the ground beef with onions, added about a half a cup of milk to the dip jar to get it all, added a hand full of grated cheese before adding the fried onions. This is so awesome! The entire pan was gone the same day! Kids loved it & very easy to make with ingreds on hand. Will definitely make it again!! Thanks for a great recipe!
made this twice; the second time, i subbed the beef for 16 oz mushrooms sauteed. just as good and meatless.
Very easy and yummy. I added tortilla strips along with fried onions.
This is so good but so simple!! I’ve made it multiple times and always delicious!! Thanks for this.
I Have recommended your recipe so many times that I have lost count. This dish was amazing and a new family favorite! Thank You!
Donna, you just made my day. Thank you 🙂
Easy and very tasty. I will be making this again but I will add some milk because I like my casseroles a little more creamy.
Added a 1/2 stick of butter Kept It from drying out and extra flavor
Made for dinner tonight. My husband loved it and he is a very picky eater. Added green beans as others suggested. Will be adding this to my recipe collection!
I Made this last night. Awesome! I didn’t put the onions on b/c i didn’t have any but it was still very good. next time i will make sure i have the onions ;0)
Delish and so simple, Very moist, made as the recipe called except made french onion dip from 1# sour cream and 1 pkg of onion soup mix. Next time i will saute mushrooms to add to MIXTURE.. Definitely willbe on my list for potlucks.
I have mad this so many times. I have taken it to work and shared. I LOVE this simple comfort food. Love it! Yummo
Made thid last night because i wanted something quicK and easy on the menu since we had a late baseball game. This hit the spot for EVERYONE—even my PICKY eater! Will make again. I served it with a simple garden salad (i did double the meat BECAUSE… i live in a house of boys and You just have to or there will never Be enough of anything. Lol
We made this with Ground venison tonight! Seasoned the venison With montreal steak seasoning, salt and pePper. Added SAUTÉED onions and mushrooms & garlic. Also topped with shredded cheese! This dish is a must make!
I substituted brown rice for noodles. I also sauteed onions and added them to beef. It’s a great recipe! Will have often.
I made this for dinner and it was very easy!
I turned out a little too salty for me but overall very good dinner!!
I made buttered peas to serve on the side.
I will be making this again!
Only used 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, dried lipton onion soup 1/2 c chopped onion while cooking the hamburger. Turned out great and then added chopped green pepper as was serving.
This was delish. Used only 1 can of cream of mushroom soup. Also added chopped onions as the hamburger cooked. Instead of an already made dip, used dry lipton onion soup and about a tablespoon of sour cream since that was all I had. After baking put fresh chopped green onions on top.
Yummm. This was so good. My husband definitely will make again
Thank you for sharing this recipie. the only substitute i made was using fresh onion dip from the refriderator section of the store. i was so good and the leftovers were great!!!
This sounds wonderFul, cant wait to try it!
So easy and seriously delicious, this is a new family favorite.
This was easy and Delicious! As some others have done, I used sour cream and onion soup mix, but I Used the beefy onion soup mix. I also used Beefy Mushroom canned soup instead of cream of mushroom.
I’m with Some of the the other about dryness. Next time i’ll either add some sour cream and/or milk to it. Good flavor though!
Just made this recipe and it is so good! I sWapped the dip for some french onion soup powder and milK (and added some sweet peas) and it turned out amazing! I will be making this again, DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Ive made this many times and loved it every time!
Has anyone tried adding corn to it? I have fresh corn and am unsure if it would add to or take away from the creaminess of the dish.
So happy you love this one so much! I think adding corn would only make this extra delicious. But my kids despise corn, so I think it’s more of a personal preference. I say if you and those you are serving it to enjoy corn then add it. 🙂
Yummy! I had to make a couple minor modifications. I used the entire 12 oz. bag of noodles. Used one of the large cans of cream of mushroom. One cup of french fried onion rings wasn’t nearly enough, so I used the entire 6 oz can. A little pricey to make because the french onion dip was a little expenSive. However, I’m quite sure the leftovers will be completely consumed, so that makes it worthwhile!
What garnish is being used? Parsley? Green onion? Making this tonight and taste testing so far is going well! Yum!
It’s chopped parsley 🙂
Made this for dinner last night, I’m not a mushroom fan so i swapped it out and used Cream of Potato soup. it was delicious, my kids and hubby loved it.
I used an 8 oz. bLock of cream cheese, 7 oz. sour cream, and a packet of Lipton’s onion soup mix instead of jarred onion dip. So yummy!
I make this recipe about once a month or so. quick, easy and delicious. good “gifting” meal when needed as well. pretty versatile.
This recipe turned out great! I added a few additions, like peas, minced garlic, milk and dried jalapeños. I will definitely be adding this recipe to the rotation!
Made this for dinner and it was so good I followed the recipe exactly. It was so simple to put together. Had just a bit left over and the leftovers was just as good. I told three friends about it and they said sounds yummy give me the recipe. Thanks for all your great recipes.
Made this tonight and it was a HIT! The only things I did differently was added diced onion to the venison burger. I didn’t have hamburger on hand..lol
I can’t wait to make this!
This was good i added smoked gouda and smoked gruyere cheese
OMG, so glad to have found this recipe, had some trepidation about trying wish I had sooner, it’s so comforting, all you need is a green vegetable to have a complete quick meal. The flavors are so much better than I thought they would be. Thanks for a new favorite.
Great tasting wife loved it
Random question: do you have to bake this dish?
That’s actually a great question. You don’t have to. You can heat up everything together on the stove top, with the cooked noodles!
I cubed up 2 chicken breast and cooked then followed recipe as directed also added some mozzarella cheese it turned out delicious
I decided to give this a try but realized that i didn’t have the cream of mushroom soup. I did have a can of golden mushroom soup so i used that. I also added some frozen mixed veggies. It was really good! I think it would be even better with the regular cream of mushroom but it was still tasty even with my substitution. I’ll be making it again for sure.
Everyone loved it! I added 1/4 cup of milk along with garlic and onion. I topped it with cheddar cheese and Monterey (because that’s what I had) then sprinkled the french onion rings. I also did use the sour cream and package of Lipton’s onion soup mix.
this is a pretty delicious casserole. I did add a can of French green beans, chopped onion and 1/4 cup of milk as recommended by others below. no issues with it being dry. it’s very similar to beef strauganoff. we’ll keep this recipe in rotation. thanks!
I added 1/4 cup of MILK, topped with slices of Swiss cheese, didn’t add the French onions on top until about 10 minutes before done. It was delicious!
I have question though, can this be frozen? If so, should I put all the ingredients together without baking?
Hi Amy! So happy it was a hit! Yes I have found you can freeze this. Prepare it all up until the baking point but without the fried onions. Cover tightly in a freezer-safe pan and freeze up to 2 months. To thaw, place in fridge for 24 hours. Add the fried onions then Bake as directed. It will need a few extra minutes since it will be cold. 🙂
Made this twice now and it’s so yummy! I love finding ways to use ground beef that aren’t for tacos or Italian. This is easy and I have most of the ingredients always on hand. Added fresh sauteed mushrooms this time too!
I have made this recipe a few times already. My husband and I love it. I use Ruffles Ranch Dip and it is delicious!
Thank you
This recipe was great! I added fresh mushrooms and put some cheese on top.
I love this recipe! I’ve made it several times following the recipe as written, but i’m making it tonight with the addition of 8 oz sauteed baby bella mushrooms since the person in our family who doesn’t like mushrooms is out of town!. The first time i made this I accidentally mixed the 1/2 c french fried onions into the mixture, but since I love onions, I still put them on top. This was an excellent mistake – i now add them to the mixture every time, as well as on top. Thank you for this recipe!
