Homemade Oreo Cookies
Homemade Oreo Cookies are soft and delicious chocolate cookies with a sweet cream cheese filling!

These Homemade Oreo Cookies are chewy, chocolate cookies with a heavenly, rich cream cheese filling in between. They are so simple to make and taste a million times better than the store-bought cookies.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the packaged Oreos you buy at the store, but you just can’t go wrong with a decadent, soft and chocolate homemade version. Especially with the addition of a thick and creamy frosting to perfectly pair with the cookies. 😀

I know boxed cake mixes kind of have a bad rep and when used while baking some people feel it’s not ‘real’ baking or authentic. Of course, anything you make from scratch will probably taste a little better, but when you don’t have the time, cake mixes are perfect to use! Just take these Oreo cookies for example, they are soft, delicious and extra fudgy.
While the Devil’s Food Cake mix is my favorite way to make these, if you’re not the biggest chocolate fan, you can always go a different route. To change things up, you can try other flavors of cake mix. Funfetti, red velvet and vanilla would be just as amazing!

FOR COOKIES
- 1 box (18 ounces) Devil's Food Cake mix
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
CREAM CHEESE FILLING
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 2 Tablespoons butter softened
- 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups powdered sugar

Roll dough into 2 inch balls and place onto an un-greased cookie sheet. Gently press down on dough to flatten slightly. Bake for 8 to 9 minutes. (They wont seem done, but they are!) Remove from oven and let completely cool on the cookie sheet.
FOR CREAM CHEESE FILLING
- In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter and vanilla with a hand mixer until well mixed. Slowly beat in the powdered sugar until smooth.
- Take one Oreo cookie and frost the bottom with desired amount of filling, top with a second cookie.
- Store cookies in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.

Holey Moley! Why didn’t I think of this??? I make cookies from a cake mix all the time, but hadn’t thought about putting a filling between them. Brilliant…and no doubt, very tasty. Pinning!!!
Hey have you done it with white cake? It seems runny?
These are perfect! I love recipes like this that don’t have a million ingredients or complicated steps. My four year old loves to help, especially when she can actually do steps by herself. And of course, they’re really yummy!!
Have you used brownie mix instead of cake mix? Does it work still?
Yes! I tried it and it worked great! I did add 3 tablespoons of flour since the the box said to add that for more cake like brownies. They might need one more minute in the oven.
I know this post is from a long time ago, but I’m wanting to try to make these. Do they turn out crunchy like store bought Oreos?
No they don’t turn out crunchy at all. They’re more like whoopie pies. Soft, cake-like cookies. 🙂
I rolled these into two inch balls and got 8 patties, meaning 4 cookies…is that correct?
