French Onion Beef Casserole
French Onion Beef Casserole will win hearts around the dinner table. Filled with beef, onion dip, and noodles, it’s comfort in every bite!

I LOVE a good casserole. I make them all the time, but all those ingredients added together in one dish can be a difficult photography subject. 😉 That being said, don’t judge this based on the pictures. This French Onion Beef Casserole will win hearts all around the dinner table! Filled with beef, French onion dip and noodles- it is so delicious, full of flavor and so comforting.
It is amazing, my friends! I can’t think of any other word except that it is amazing. 🙂

I am so grateful my kids typically love casseroles too. When noodles are involved at any meal they don’t ask questions. They just eat. ha! I like to serve this with a side of broccoli and it makes a complete meal for my family!

Thank you for sharing this recipie. the only substitute i made was using fresh onion dip from the refriderator section of the store. i was so good and the leftovers were great!!!
This sounds wonderFul, cant wait to try it!
So easy and seriously delicious, this is a new family favorite.
This was easy and Delicious! As some others have done, I used sour cream and onion soup mix, but I Used the beefy onion soup mix. I also used Beefy Mushroom canned soup instead of cream of mushroom.
I’m with Some of the the other about dryness. Next time i’ll either add some sour cream and/or milk to it. Good flavor though!
Just made this recipe and it is so good! I sWapped the dip for some french onion soup powder and milK (and added some sweet peas) and it turned out amazing! I will be making this again, DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Ive made this many times and loved it every time!
Has anyone tried adding corn to it? I have fresh corn and am unsure if it would add to or take away from the creaminess of the dish.
So happy you love this one so much! I think adding corn would only make this extra delicious. But my kids despise corn, so I think it’s more of a personal preference. I say if you and those you are serving it to enjoy corn then add it. 🙂
Yummy! I had to make a couple minor modifications. I used the entire 12 oz. bag of noodles. Used one of the large cans of cream of mushroom. One cup of french fried onion rings wasn’t nearly enough, so I used the entire 6 oz can. A little pricey to make because the french onion dip was a little expenSive. However, I’m quite sure the leftovers will be completely consumed, so that makes it worthwhile!
What garnish is being used? Parsley? Green onion? Making this tonight and taste testing so far is going well! Yum!
It’s chopped parsley 🙂
Made this for dinner last night, I’m not a mushroom fan so i swapped it out and used Cream of Potato soup. it was delicious, my kids and hubby loved it.
I used an 8 oz. bLock of cream cheese, 7 oz. sour cream, and a packet of Lipton’s onion soup mix instead of jarred onion dip. So yummy!
I make this recipe about once a month or so. quick, easy and delicious. good “gifting” meal when needed as well. pretty versatile.
This recipe turned out great! I added a few additions, like peas, minced garlic, milk and dried jalapeños. I will definitely be adding this recipe to the rotation!
Made this for dinner and it was so good I followed the recipe exactly. It was so simple to put together. Had just a bit left over and the leftovers was just as good. I told three friends about it and they said sounds yummy give me the recipe. Thanks for all your great recipes.
Made this tonight and it was a HIT! The only things I did differently was added diced onion to the venison burger. I didn’t have hamburger on hand..lol
I can’t wait to make this!
This was good i added smoked gouda and smoked gruyere cheese
OMG, so glad to have found this recipe, had some trepidation about trying wish I had sooner, it’s so comforting, all you need is a green vegetable to have a complete quick meal. The flavors are so much better than I thought they would be. Thanks for a new favorite.
Great tasting wife loved it
Random question: do you have to bake this dish?
That’s actually a great question. You don’t have to. You can heat up everything together on the stove top, with the cooked noodles!
I cubed up 2 chicken breast and cooked then followed recipe as directed also added some mozzarella cheese it turned out delicious
I decided to give this a try but realized that i didn’t have the cream of mushroom soup. I did have a can of golden mushroom soup so i used that. I also added some frozen mixed veggies. It was really good! I think it would be even better with the regular cream of mushroom but it was still tasty even with my substitution. I’ll be making it again for sure.
Everyone loved it! I added 1/4 cup of milk along with garlic and onion. I topped it with cheddar cheese and Monterey (because that’s what I had) then sprinkled the french onion rings. I also did use the sour cream and package of Lipton’s onion soup mix.
this is a pretty delicious casserole. I did add a can of French green beans, chopped onion and 1/4 cup of milk as recommended by others below. no issues with it being dry. it’s very similar to beef strauganoff. we’ll keep this recipe in rotation. thanks!
I added 1/4 cup of MILK, topped with slices of Swiss cheese, didn’t add the French onions on top until about 10 minutes before done. It was delicious!
I have question though, can this be frozen? If so, should I put all the ingredients together without baking?
Hi Amy! So happy it was a hit! Yes I have found you can freeze this. Prepare it all up until the baking point but without the fried onions. Cover tightly in a freezer-safe pan and freeze up to 2 months. To thaw, place in fridge for 24 hours. Add the fried onions then Bake as directed. It will need a few extra minutes since it will be cold. 🙂
