Apple Crescent Dumplings are fresh apple slices rolled up and baked in buttery, flaky crescent dough. These treats are so delicious and easy to make!

Apple Dumplings

Apples are one of the best fruits to bake with, and for good reason! They are totally versatile and can work in a variety of different recipes. Not to mention they are good for you! I like to think that any dessert with apples has to be a healthy one, right? 😉 At least in this house it is! When my family craves a fall treat, I go to my Apple Crescent Dumplings recipe. These tasty treats are amazing. Serve them warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream!

APPLE CRESCENT DUMPLINGS

There is something so satisfying about this warm baked apple treat. I especially love the cinnamon-sugar flavor. It might just be one of the best flavor combinations out there. Fresh slices of Granny Smith apples are wrapped up in crescent dough. I like to use Pillsbury Original Crescent Rolls. Once all the apples are properly rolled, they are placed in a baking dish and then topped with a mixture of melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar. Next, the secret ingredient comes into play, and that is lemon-lime soda! Sprite or Mountain Dew is poured all around the dumplings before going in the oven. This helps everything bake and bubble up to perfection.

Apple Dumplings

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cans (8 ounces, each) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls
  • ¾ cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Sprite soda (or any lemon-lime soda)
  • Caramel Sauce, optional
  • Vanilla Ice Cream, optional

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter. Set aside.

Peel and core both apples then cut into 16 slices total.

Unroll the crescent dough and separate into 16 triangles. Place 1 apple slice on the larger end of the triangle. Roll to the opposite point, wrapping dough around the apple slice. Place dumpling in pan and repeat process with all remaining apples and crescent dough triangles.

In a medium bowl, stir together melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour mixture evenly all over the dumplings.

Pour soda in the center and along edges of the pan. (Don’t pour on top of dumplings.)

Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy with drizzles of caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream!

BEST WAY TO SERVE APPLE DUMPLINGS

In my humble opinion, these dumplings are not truly complete unless served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream! We also enjoy them with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and even chocolate sauce sometimes!

A BUSHEL OF OPTIONS

Don’t have Granny Smith apples in your home? Don’t stress because there are plenty of options out there for you to enjoy. Try Honey Crisp, Braeburn, Gala, Fuji, red, or golden apples delicious instead. These apples, like Granny Smith, are crisp and will hold their shape after baking. Each one is unique and will make for a slightly different flavor. I like Granny Smith because the tartness balances out the buttery and cinnamon-sugar flavors.

SODA OPTIONS

7-Up or Mountain Dew sodas are great substitutions. Any lemon-lime soda will work! This is more for the effervescence as it helps the dough bake into a texture that is completely desirable.

SWEET TOOTH CRAVINGS

Sometimes there aren’t enough sweet things in the world to satisfy my sweet tooth. It can be a problem! When I am feeling extra indulgent, I like to spruce these up just a bit. I will top the apples with a few chocolate chips before rolling them up. This makes them only extra delicious.
