I really don’t think it gets any easier than this for a simple and delicious meal! This Red and White Pasta requires only four ingredients. Yep, that’s it. This is my go-to dish on weeknights after I’ve had a long day at work. My kids love it and they are the pickiest eaters on the planet! A dinner that is filled with pasta and cheese has ‘kid-friendly’ written all over it. 🙂

This recipe comes from my favorite cookbook I always talk about, The Food Nanny. Hers calls for a homemade Alfredo sauce that she makes. It is amazing but when I’m in a hurry, and don’t have a lot of time to make dinner, I just use a bottle of Alfredo sauce. It works out perfectly.

I believe another reason I love The Food Nanny’s cookbook so much is because there’s a lot of menu planning ideas in it. Her book is what inspired me to start menu planning years ago. I remember when I used to go to the grocery store with absolutely no idea as to what I was going to make for any meals. I would spend a couple hundred dollars on a bunch of odds and ends and then we would always end up eating out or grabbing fast food. It was such a waste of money.

Now before I go to the store I plan all of our meals and write down all the ingredients I need. I make sure to go through my entire pantry and fridge to see if I already have some of the items so I don’t buy double. It has been such a money saver! : )

Red and White Pasta is always a dinner time favorite at our house. The combination of marinara with Alfredo sauce was a match made in heaven. This is another meatless meal that I always serve a big green salad with. It is so delicious!

  1. That’s it! I’m making this tomorrow. Hands down making this! You know the funny thing, my friend at work was telling me about mixing Alfredo and regular sauce together and I told her I’d never heard of it, and then I see your post tonight. Oh how I love pasta, this is calling my name FOR SURE! Oh I could reach in the screen and take a bite!

  2. I have made this before! Except I think in mine, I mixed the sauces together and combined with the pasta, 1/2 the mozz cheeze, then topped with the other half and baked. We loved, loved, LOVED it! I can’t believe we haven’t had it since! I think the sauce is lovely enough that you caould add chicken, shrimp, sausage, or anything else. I totally use Trader Joe’s jarred Alfredo sauce. Beautiful!!! Thanks for reminding me of this super yummy recipe!

  3. Oh that is a good idea to use alfredo AND marinara sauce! I just love meals like this for a busy week too. Because you want to make something really good but you just don’t want to dirty another pot trying to make your own sauce! Love it Hol!!

  4. This sounds delicious. Julia Child used to make a lasagna that used both sauces. It was delicious as I’m sure your dish must be. Have a wonderful evening. Blessings…Mary

  5. This looked so simple I had to try it. I made a regular version and a lower fat one. Both came out great. Well, I told everyone about it. I could not believe how flavorful this is. I ended up making this for a crowd by doubling the recipe. It was a nice alternative to the baked ziti everyone always serves. Thanks Holly, this is a great comfort food and a crowd pleaser!

  6. LOVED it! I don’t like to cook more than I have to. Tried it and it was a hit. I asked the family if I should make it again and they said yes! I write down the different sauces/brands to find out the ones I like the most (due to grocery sales etc). Thanks for posting it 🙂

  7. Just made today. In the oven right now. Looks like a lot of sauce but sure smells good. Hopefully there is no such thing as to much sauce!

  8. I saw this recipe before I left for a looooong vacation to see family….(feels like forever)…trying to figure out dinner one night for all the young ones I remembered this one, made it and everyone loved it! Oh! I also made along side with this turkey meatballs and garlic bread! Delish and quick!

  9. Made this tonight – SO easy and yummy! My kids both loved it. I think hubby and I would like it with a kick to it…maybe add some red pepper flakes. 🙂

  10. Is there a way to get to each of the monday meal plan recipes without going into each one and scrolling through the post? there is a link that says print recipe, but the page comes up blank…

  11. 5 stars
the only way I’ve made this is with jarred Alfredo. why waste the time? I’ve been searching for this recipe so THANK you for sharing. (I can’t get this to type without caps, so my apologies for that.)

  12. We just recently tried Walmart’s brand of penne and we loved it. Has anyone tried making this with meat? I’d like to make a double batch and freeze one.
