Soft and moist lemon brownies with a sweet lemon glaze. Life-in-the-Lofthouse.comLast Saturday I spent the morning cleaning our house and baking these Glazed Lemon Brownies. As soon as I pulled them out of the oven my Momma called, inviting us to her company barbecue. Kale was heading out of town to the Super Cross race in Las Vegas, so I took her up on the invitation and headed over to the park with the kids!

We ate hot dogs, chips and cookies while the kiddos played on the play ground. It was a lot of fun! At the BBQ I told Mom about the brownies I had just made, but wasn’t sure how they turned out. I told her I’d let her be my taste-tester to see if they were worthy of the blog. She was all excited. My Mom is a big lemon-lover, just like me. Or maybe I’m a lemon-lover, just like her? 😀

Soft and moist lemon brownies with a sweet lemon glaze. Life-in-the-Lofthouse.comOnce we were home from the barbecue I snapped a few pics for the blog, and then took a bite. The results? Heaven! 😀 Lemon brownie heaven! The flavor of lemon is just perfect, and they’re soft and moist, just like a brownie should be. And that glaze. Seriously, the best.

I took a few more pics and then packed some up to take to Mom. Of course, she ended up loving them! I think I might need to make her another batch for Mother’s Day! And you should probably make a batch for your Mom, too. 😉 ♥

Soft and moist Glazed Lemon Brownies!

Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes
Servings 9
Author Holly

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh lemon zest

LEMON GLAZE

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F. Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan with non-stick spray. (Or you can line with foil or parchment paper for easy removal).
  • In a large bowl, stir flour, sugar and salt together. (I used a whisk to stir it. It sifts the flour at the same time).
  • Add softened butter to flour mixture, stir with a spatula until combined.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, lemon juice and lemon zest. Pour mixture into the flour mixture. Stir with a spatula until smooth and combined. (A few lumps may remain).
  • Pour batter into prepared baking pan and spread out evenly. Bake 25 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let cool completely before glazing.

FOR LEMON GLAZE

  • Whisk together glaze ingredients until smooth. Pour and spread evenly over cooled brownies. Let glaze set before cutting into 9 bars. Serve and enjoy!

We made these tonight and they were absolutely amazing and I dont like lemon… following the recipe to a T… wouldn’t change a thing…. thank you for sharing this with us. I wish I could post the PICTURES here…

  2. Our friend just sent us a box of lemons from California. Perfect timing to try these. Lemon is my favorite!

  3. I just made these brownies today and they turned out great they are so light and tasty and I love the scent and flavor of lemon! I was afraid they wouldn’t turn out think because the batter didn’t look like a lot but they were not too thick and not too thin. Next time for more thicker brownies I might double the batter.

  4. I made these last night and they are amazing! My husband and son love them! Simple and quick with just the right amount of lemon. Next time I might try just a simple syrup instead of glaze. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I must say these are AMAZING! I made these tonight for my daughter to take to a party and sadly (ha ha) I couldn’t fit them all on the plate. I had to keep a couple for myself The lemon flavor is absolutely perfect, not too much, but definitely a lemon lover’s dream! I will make these again and again! Simply superb! Thanks for this recipe. I enjoyed them immensely. I’m sure they were a hit at the party too.

  6. My cousins loved these when I made them! And I did, too. They were very rich and dense. I’m thinking, I might double the recipe and put it in a 9×13

  7. Made these over Christmas vacation and my family LOVED them! Wish I had made a 9X13 pan. I actually need to take them to a gathering Friday. Do you have the recipe measurements to make them in a 9X13? THANKS so much!

  8. While searching for something “lemony,” I discovered this recipe. I have already made a couple of batches. All I can say is that they are addicting….the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Thanks!

  9. I had all ingredients prepared to make these and noted that there was no leavening agent listed. I added 1/2 tsp. of baking powder and added 10 minutes on to the baking time. I didn’t have access to computer to read the above comments regarding lack of baking powder. I would like to know what the consistency of the brownie is without the leavening. Thanks!

    1. Yes, there is no leavening agent in these brownies. Actually in most brownie recipes there are not leavening agents. Brownies are meant to be more dense than cake. These lemon brownies are the same, they are very moist but they are dense. 🙂 Hope this helps!

      1. Hubby & I ate my “baking powder tweaked” lemon brownies in two days! So, obviously NOT the fudgy consistency of your original recipe, but still delicious!

  10. Hello, although I do continue to make my “tweaked” version of your recipe, as noted below, I thought you’d like to know that i won 2nd place for your glazed lemon brownies recipe in our local county fair this summer! thanks so much!

I was looking for easy and lemony when I found these and decided to give it a go. These were some of the easiest and most delicious bars I have ever made!! its a keeper recipe to look fancy when you are lacking time. I didnt skimp on the INGREDIENTS though grass fed butter organic lemons and flour paid off in the end. Do yourself a favor and make a DOUBLE batch so when you eat them all you can still share!!

I just baked these lemon brownies a couple of hours ago. They turned out amazing! One of my two daughters wasn’t a fan, she’s really picky though. My wife and other daughter loves them! Now it’s on to another baking adventure during this pandemic…

  13. I made the lemon brownies once and they turned out phenomenally. My review is listed below. This time I made them with oranges instead of lemons just to see how they would turn out. The answer is wonderfully! Give them a shot!

  14. I’m not sure why, but the amount of lemon juice you specify for the glaze was not enough. I added another tablespoon to get a texture that is a bit like toothpaste. Is that how it’s supposed to be?

    1. When using only 1 cup of powdered sugar, then yes you only need 1 1/2 Tablespoons lemon juice.
It should make a nice thin glaze for the brownies 🙂

these tasted amazing and were very easy. I Only wish they had that crackly top and a more crumbly Tender texture like a true brownie. These were more like a moist dense cake.
